Undertaking this renovation project within the conservation area of Blackheath was a delicate yet rewarding process that involved preserving the historical essence of the property while integrating modern elements and improving functionality.
A first floor side extension complete with a roof terrace were added, giving a fantastic space for our clients to grow fruit and veg.
Excavating the rear garden was another significant aspect of the project. This process aimed to optimise both the indoor and outdoor areas, allowing for better utilisation of space.
One of the most intricate aspects of the project was replicating the external cornices from the existing house and adding them to the new side extension. Preserving these intricate architectural details was essential to maintaining the property’s character.

I picked out SGBC primarily because I’d seen the work that they had done for a friend of mine on a big project and it was a really high standard of job. I initially met with Vadym and the wonderful architect Andrea Cincotta (who Vadym recommended and I would also highly recommend) and we worked towards a specification of the works and a quote. Vadym stuck to this figure right to the end despite the project taking a lot longer than we’d originally thought (because of planning and various material delays) and the inflating cost of materials that was going on at that time.
I worked with Dima day to day on the site details who was absolutely great – always taking my calls without fail, meeting up and talking through things even when I was probably being quite annoying and difficult! I know now that no big project is going to be totally straightforward and it’s not something I had any experience of but I was really happy with how it was managed overall.
The guys on site were great. They were always early to arrive and respectful of the property and they geniunely cared about the result. I was very impressed with the level of skill – particularly of the carpenter and the bricklayer (who I would say was verging on being an artist as he had such a good eye for the aesthetics)
Along the way we had to make changes (as happens on big projects like this) but this was all done in a way in which I was happy. Overall I’m really glad I went with Vadym and team. Having heard some of the nightmares other people have had with building contractors I was just so relieved to have a proper professional outfit doing the work and I am now so happy in my new home.
